The State Board of Idaho has approved a course in pharmacology to certify and license medical and naturopathic practitioners to prescribe drugs. This 3-unit credit, 10-week (45 hours) pharmacology course is designed to train practitioners how to assess the benefits and risks of pharmacologic agents in the treatment of common disorders. Presentations will focus on demonstrating how to extend and optimize treatent plans with pharmaceutics in an integrated, evidence-based patient care setting.

Course Description
Pharmacology is the systematic study of drugs used in the treatment of common disorders. The course will emphasize practical pharmacologic applications and will train students how to assess the benefits and risks associated with drug selection. Lectures will offer students a rational basis for evaluating therapetuic options in an integrated, holistic patient care setting. Students will learn drug indications, mechanisms of action, adverse effects, toxicities, drug-interactions, and important drug cost and managed care considerations.

* NOTE: The course schedule is flexible and will be adjusted to accomodate students' busy professional work schedule. Zoom lecture recordings will be available to students unable to attend synchronous (i.e., live) lectures.

Dr. Levy graduated magna cum laude with a doctorate degree in clinical pharmacology from University
of the Pacific and pursued multiple teaching positions at UCLA, CSULB, CSUF, CSUDH, and SCU. In his 32-year academic career, Dr. Levy’s students consistently ranked his teaching style and performance “highest in the department.” In his clinical practice, he managed and optimized drug treatment plans for patients at Kaiser Permanente, Cedars-Sinai, Anaheim Memorial, and Providence St. Joseph. Dr. Levy is eager to share a meaningful learning experience with medical and naturopathic practitioners in Idaho who seek to enhance their therapeutic skills and offer their patients integrated, evidence-based pharmaceutical care.
